Chime Installation Series (2005)

Linda A. Day

In 2005 I began a series of drawings that became preliminaries for another manifestation of PULSE. The central shape in the drawing is an elongated stacked triangle. The shape’s slightly odd proportions were inspired by the structure of Hindu temples in the nagara style, referencing the Hindu cosmology of the universe and, more particularly, the Himalayan home of the Hindu gods. In terms of Hindu iconography, the structure reflects the universe and, like the mandala, functions as a schematic map of the universe. The CHIME series embeds a triangular structure within vertical bands of color, camouflaging these forms within the oscillating field.
